Counseling and Psychotherapy

Individual Counseling

Counseling, also referred to as psychotherapy or “talk therapy,” provides an opportunity for individuals to show emotions and verbalize feelings and thoughts regarding issues, people, and experiences with a licensed mental health professional. This service offers a confidential opportunity to obtain support through tumultuous life challenges and, or changes. Individual counseling can assist with a plethora of psychological, behavioral, and emotional issues. Anyone can benefit from individual counseling, as this service is designed for individuals to vent, decipher, and, or analyze the deepest of emotions, fears, and thoughts.

Individual Counseling with Us!

Before the initial counseling session, our therapists conduct a comprehensive clinical assessment of the patients presenting needs and psychosocial history. Secondly, the patient and therapist develop the patient’s treatment plan. During this time, the patient and therapist discuss the goals of treatment and the plan to accomplish those goals. Lastly, treatment begins! The patient works individually with the therapist in a safe, therapeutic, and confidential environment, exploring their emotions, beliefs, and behaviors regarding challenging or influential historic or current situations. Additionally, this process also includes assisting patients with identifying aspects of themselves and life they would like to understand better and or reconstruct.

Couples Counseling

Couples therapy, also known as relationship or marriage counseling, assist couples with identifying issues, conflict resolution, and encourages relationship cohesiveness and relationship satisfaction. Through the use of therapeutic interventions, we help couples with improving and, at times, rebuilding the foundation of their relationship. We understand that every relationship is different, and we do not discriminate against couple dynamics, belief system, or sexual indiscretions. We welcome all types of relationships, including polyamorous. Our job is not to judge, but to assist with improving the relationship.

At some point, every couple experiences a “dry spell” or periods of conflict, hostility, arguments, or chaos. Commonly, many couples seek counseling for the following reasons:

  • Communication issues
  • Resentment and conflict
  • Sexual difficulties/discretion’s
  • Disagreement family structure
  • Financial disagreements
  • Substance use
  • Infidelity
  • Contemplating separation or divorce
  • Desiring an “open” relationship
  • Untruthfulness
  • Lack of trust

When left unsettled, these matters can produce stress, anxiety, or depression for one or both partners. Relationship issues can also be intensified by external factors, such as an established mental illness or a stressful life event.

Family Counseling

Addictions Counseling

Family counseling is provided to any family, regardless of culture and dynamics. This service intends to assist families with distress reduction and conflict resolution by enhancing engagement between family members.  Family therapy utilizes a strengths-based approach to identify difficulties as patterns or systems that need adjusting, as opposed to viewing challenges as a person or residing in a person. Family therapy is beneficial for families with communication and detachment issues, as well as families that may exhibit dysfunctional patterns. Our therapists specialize in many family structures to include families impacted by transition or crisis (e.g., divorce, relocating, deployment, adoption, and trauma). We are proficient in assisting families with various challenges and family restoration.

Addiction counseling assists patients with overcoming obsessive, compulsive, and destructive behaviors. These behaviors may include but are not limited to drug and alcohol abuse, gambling, and addictions to sex and, or gaming.  Our counselors use a multi-faceted approach that consists of psychoeducation, behavioral and emotional regulation, accountability, impulse control, and cognitive restructuring skills. Counseling also includes coordination with the individual’s primary care provider and or medication prescriber.

Additionally, family therapy may also be incorporated if viable to the patient’s care and treatment outcomes. One of the main goals of addiction counseling is to provide a support system for individuals with various addictive disorders. Our addiction counselors teach patients how to modify their behavior with the intention of full recovery.

Group Therapy

TeleTherapy

We offer various group therapies for children, adolescents, and adults. Our children’s groups (preschoolers and early middle childhood) are considered “play dates.” During this group, children meet in the playroom to engage in activities that foster social skills, sharing, and relationship building. The adolescent group (middle-childhood-teenagers) discuss various topics according to the age group that is related to but are not limited to depression, behavioral and emotional regulation, anxiety, sexuality, suicidality, and relationships. Additionally, adult group topics also vary and are in accordance with emotional, mental, and behavioral health and adult issues. We provide a monthly calendar of ongoing groups. Registration is free and required to participate!!

Groups are assigned by age.

  • Preschoolers (3-5 years)
  • Early Middle Childhood (6-8 years)
  • Middle Childhood (9-11 years)
  • Young Teens (12-14 years)
  • Teenagers (15-17 years)
  • Adults ( 18 years and up)

Telebehavioral health (TBH) also referred to as “teletherapy” consists of electronic-based counseling. This type of treatment may be provided in various forms to reach individuals in countless locations. TBH is conducted online or telephonically. The provision of electronic counseling allows counseling services via phone, chat, video, or email. TBH is provided to individuals, couples, and families. Individuals who choose to seek teletherapy should have the most current electronic software that supports video/chat functions, consistent internet, and confidential space.

Teletherapy is beneficial to individuals who have difficulty accessing mental health services. Moreover, distance counseling can also provide a level of comfort to individuals who may feel they communicate better with a therapist electronically. Additionally, some individuals may feel that electronic counseling is more accessible then face to face counseling. TBH can also be used alongside traditional therapy, especially when patients are unable to attend face to face appointments.
