Specialized Consultative Services

“Empowering caregivers through expert clinical support.”

Our Specialized Consultative Services (SCS) are designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of family caregivers and direct support professionals who care for individuals with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) or Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI). Delivered by licensed clinicians and specialists, these services provide expert training and technical assistance in key areas such as:

  • Psychology and behavioral intervention

  • Occupational therapy

  • Physical therapy

  • Nutrition and dietary support

The goal of SCS is to strengthen the caregiver’s ability to implement effective, individualized strategies that improve the well-being and daily functioning of the person receiving care.

Key Features of SCS Include:

Training in Specialized Equipment Usage
We train caregivers to safely and effectively use assistive technology, adaptive home equipment, and vehicle modifications to meet each individual’s unique physical and sensory needs.

Development of Intervention Plans
Our team collaborates with caregivers to create customized plans outlining specific therapeutic interventions, daily routines, and measurable outcomes to enhance care delivery and promote independence.

Ongoing Technical Assistance and Support
We provide continuous support to ensure the successful implementation of intervention strategies, including real-time coaching, troubleshooting, and collaboration with care teams.

Eligibility & Access

Specialized Consultative Services are available only to individuals enrolled in North Carolina Medicaid under the NC Innovations Waiver or the NC Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Waiver. These waivers are designed for individuals who prefer to receive long-term care services in home or community-based settings rather than in institutions.

To access SCS, eligible individuals must work with their care coordinator to incorporate these services into their person-centered plan.
